Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extended clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51M watchers in the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB reported this marks the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a 16% improvement over the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – recorded 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series game on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average reached 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09M watchers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s best playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
